"Real Food" BBQ Basics

There is no reason why your Summer BBQs can't be filled with "real foods". BBQs, camping trips, or days by the pool shouldn't stop you or slow you down. Sometimes it's a drag to think about making or preparing your foods but think about how empowering it might feel. We love entertaining during the summer and have a few things on hand for all those summer nights.

What We Grab Before a BBQ

Watermelon-Did you know that watermelon has several benefits including hydrating and protecting the skin from sun damage? It's the perfect summer BBQ snack. Check out this video for 3 ways to cut your watermelon!

Veggies- Who doesn't love a refreshing salad? There are so many different ways you can execute this; Orzo salad, green salad, Chinese chicken salad and more. Don't be scared to bring your favorite salad to the BBQ- no one passes up that good salad.

Siete Potato Chips - Potato chips aren't necessarily healthy, no matter how good the product but we do like a good potato chip, and the best way to feel good the next day is to buy chips with fewer additives.

Hot Dogs - Applegate has a great uncured option for hot dogs without additives and preservatives. I promise, no one will know the difference.

Salsa - Salsa can have additives, dyes, natural flavors, and gums. This Salsa is a favorite of ours and is one of the few clean ones you can get in the store. I highly recommend enjoying your chips and salsa by picking up a cleaner salsa for your BBQ

Burgers- We like to make sure we have grass-fed and finished beef to offer the most nutrition from our burgers. Buying a 70/30 ratio may provide a bit more flavor but the most common is 80/20 and that's ok!

Popsicles- We are known for our container of popsicles after the big BBQ meal. I love to have a variety of popsicles so the kids can come to pick their own, and enjoy. We never dreamed it would be a kid's favorite but, it is!!! Here's what we choose

  1. GoodPop - their flavors are awesome. They aren't always perfect but that's nearly impossible these days. They have an exceptional amount of flavors that are available and can be found at most stores. I like to grab push-up pops, "otter pops" and popsicles.

  2. Hagen Daz- This is usually an adult favorite and while you are probably shocked that this is on my list, the ingredients aren't terrible, especially when most ice creams are full of gums like Carageenan.

    1. Vanilla Ice Cream: Cream, Skim Milk, Sugar, Egg Yolks, Vanilla Extract. Chocolate And Vegetable Oil Coating With Almonds: Milk Chocolate (Sugar, Whole Milk Powder, Chocolate, Cocoa Butter, Soy Lecithin, Vanilla Extract), Almonds Roasted In Vegetable Oil (Almonds, Safflower Oil), Coconut Oil.

Sulfite Free Wine-I like to have a glass of wine to unwind but if you are anything like me, I get a headache and then avoid the hell out of wine. But it doesn't have to be that way!! Enjoy

I hope you find that summer foods don't have to be hard. You can enjoy your summer BBQs and keep moving towards your goals or health style.

Enjoy your Summer BBQ's
