My 10 Summer Wellness Essentials (aka What I Never Leave Home Without)

Every season has its vibe, but summer? It demands its own checklist. The heat, the travel, the last-minute pool invites—everything about this season is just a little more... chaotic. And while I love a good summer day, I also know how easy it is to feel run down, bloated, or sunburned by 4 p.m. if I’m not paying attention.
So here’s my not-so-fancy, definitely-not-sponsored list of the 10 things I keep close all summer to stay fueled, hydrated, and feeling good (even when I’m listening to my kids argue, dodging bugs, or digging through my bag for snacks).
1. Electrolytes (the good ones)
I talk about these all the time because most people are walking around dehydrated without realizing it—especially in the summer. I keep Just Ingredients (code wellnesshomemade10) and Subluna stocked at home and toss a few packets in my bag when we’re out. They’re kid-friendly, balanced, and don’t have junky sweeteners. Game changer.
2. Clean Sunscreen (Dime Beauty + Primally Pure)
If you’ve ever tried to rub thick zinc onto a squirmy toddler, you know the struggle. These two brands go on smooth, don’t smell like a chemical cloud, and actually work. I love Dime's WonderSkin, which is a tinted sunscreen that gives you a little coverage.
Primally Pure's New sunscreen (code wellness.homemade10) options are clean + they don't leave a white cast.
Bonus: I can use them without worrying about what’s going into our skin.
3. Probiotics
Summer = off schedule. More travel, more meals out, more things that can throw your gut off track. I double down on a good probiotic during the summer because a happy gut means better digestion, better immunity, and less bloat. Yes, please.
4. Elderberry Boost
You know I’m not leaving this out. I bring this with us everywhere—stirred into sparkling water or mixed into iced tea. Travel, shared food, late nights… Elderberry Boost helps keep our immune systems strong without tasting like medicine.
5. My Nordace Backpack (and Travel Cubes)
If you’ve ever had to dig through a giant tote looking for sunscreen, a protein bar, or your kid’s spare underwear—you get it. I’m obsessed with my Nordace backpack. It’s sleek, organized, and holds everything. Add in travel cubes, and I’m basically a packing ninja.
6. Active Skin Repair
Let me tell you—this spray is a summer hero. Cuts, scrapes, sunburns, bug bites, mystery rashes... it handles it all. It’s like Neosporin, but cleaner and easier to use. I keep one in the car, one in the bathroom, and one in my beach bag. Grab it here
7. A Swimsuit (Yes, Even in the Snow)
Michael always says, “Bring your swimsuit.” Doesn’t matter where we’re going—even the snow. And honestly, he’s right. Hot tubs, hot springs, hotel pools, someone’s backyard—summer surprises you. I’ve learned to just keep one packed.
8. A Wide-Brim Hat
Practical and cute. I love a hat that protects my face, covers my less-than-fresh hair, and pulls an outfit together. Toss it on with a sundress or workout gear, and boom—you’re ready for a Target run or a picnic.
9. Portable Protein
Summer days are long, and the snacks need to last. I stash Chomps sticks, almond butter packets, and protein bars in every bag I own. It’s the easiest way to avoid the blood sugar rollercoaster when plans change or meals get delayed.
10. Natural Bug Spray or Wipes
Mosquitos love me—and I’m not a fan. I keep a clean bug spray in our outdoor basket and one in the car. If you’re hanging outside after 6 p.m., don’t even try to tell me you’re not getting bit. I’m prepared.
The Bottom Line: Pack Smart, Feel Good
Summer’s not the time to wing it. A little prep means more energy, fewer meltdowns (from you or the kids), and less scrambling. These are the staples that make my life easier—whether we’re road-tripping, beach-lounging, or just living in the chaos of summer.
If you want to see exactly how I pack for trips or what snacks I throw in my bag, I’ll be sharing more inside the membership. Or drop a comment and tell me your must-have summer item—I’m always looking for new favorites!
